Lesson prices, rental costs, packages and the extras nobody lists — a transparent breakdown of what a surf trip to Sagres actually costs in 2026.
Pricing is the first thing most people want to know and the hardest thing to find clearly stated on a surf school website. So here it is, in text, with real numbers: what surfing in Sagres costs in 2026, what is included, and what a whole trip adds up to.
All prices below are FreeRide's own 2026 rates. Other schools in Sagres sit in a similar band; where we differ we say so.
Group surf lessons
A group session runs 2h30 and includes coaching, board, wetsuit, transport to whichever beach we pick that morning, and sports insurance.
Low season (November to May): 60€ for one day, 165€ for three days, 250€ for five days, 50€ for each extra day.
High season (June to October): 65€ for one day, 190€ for three days, 300€ for five days, 60€ for each extra day.
The packages are where the value sits. A five-day block in high season works out at 60€ a day against 65€ for a single, and — more to the point — consecutive days are what actually make you a surfer. Minimum age for group lessons is 12.
Private lessons
Private sessions run 1h30 to 2h and are priced per session, not per person.
Low season: 220€ for one or two people, plus 70€ per additional person.
High season: 300€ for one or two people, plus 80€ per additional person.
For a couple that is 110-150€ each, roughly double a group lesson. What you buy is pace and attention — for nervous first-timers, for children (minimum age 6 on privates, against 12 in groups), and for intermediates working on a specific technical problem, it is usually worth it. A family of four in low season pays 360€, which is 90€ a head with a dedicated instructor.
Guided surfing for independent surfers
If you already surf and just want someone who knows where the waves are, guiding is priced per group: 220€ for one to four people, 270€ for five, plus 50€ per extra person. That covers a long session or two shorter ones, transport to the breaks, and a local guide reading the day's swell and wind across both coasts.
Split four ways that is 55€ each. Available February to June and September to December — the months when the swell justifies it.
Board and wetsuit rental
Rental is 40€ for three hours, 55€ for a full day, 50€ per day on a three-day rental, 40€ per day over five days, and 30€ per day beyond that. A full week therefore lands around 210€ rather than the 385€ seven single days would cost.
That is board and wetsuit together — we do not price them separately, and we carry beginner soft-tops, shortboards, fish, mid-lengths and longboards.
Surf and stay packages
Surf-and-stay bundles accommodation with breakfast, your sessions, equipment for the duration and beach transport. Weekend (2-3 nights, 1-2 lessons), mid-week (3-5 nights, 2-3 lessons) and full week (6-7 nights, 5 lessons) formats exist, priced on the season and the accommodation you choose — ask us for a quote rather than guessing from a table, because September and February are very different months to price.
Bundled is almost always cheaper than assembling the same trip yourself, and it removes the logistics of matching lesson times to check-in times.
What a whole trip actually costs
A realistic budget for one person on a five-day autumn surf trip, excluding flights: 300€ for the five-day lesson package, 250-450€ for accommodation depending on whether you want a hostel bed or a hotel room, 150-200€ for food if you eat out most evenings, and 150-250€ for a hire car if you want one — though with beach transport included in every lesson, plenty of people skip it.
Call it 850-1,200€ for the week on the ground. Off-season, the same week is comfortably under 800€.
What is not in the price
Flights, car hire, dinners, and optional extras such as photo packages. Everything needed to surf — board, suit, transport, insurance, instructor — is in the lesson price. There is no beach transport surcharge and no equipment fee.
Prices shown are 2026 rates and can change; the booking page is always the authoritative version.
